Kampos is the westernmost Cretan gorge, circa 2.5 km long. It lies nearby the namesake village, is easily accessible, mostly on dirt paths, features a small waterfall suitable for refreshing dips and the only harder section is the climb from Platanakia towards Sfinari. There are very tall plane trees along the entire path and actually all the way to Platanakia beach, next to the sea, also the gorge’s end. Its river flows all year long and its steep rocky walls often are red-tinged. Rock doves built their nests here all year long while the aroma of dittany scents the area.
